Fortune magazine issued the list of 2003 global 500 companies on July 7. Sinochem ranks 248th with a sales revenue of US$18.76 billion in 2002. It ranks 11th among the global top trading companies. Up to now Sinochem has been listed among the global 500 companies for the 14th time.
Wal-Mart, the retail giant still tops the list, with sales revenue standing at US$250 billion in 2002. The second and third ones are GM and Exxonmobil. There are altogether 116 Asian companies incorporated into the list, among which there are 88 Japanese companies, 13 South Korean companies and 11 Chinese mainland companies. Toyota ranks 8th, the highest ranking of Asian companies in the list.
This year the ranking of selected Chinese companies have all risen up. CNPC ranks 69th from 81st of last year, Sinopec ranks 70th from 86th of last year, and Sinochem ranks 248th from 311th last year. China Life Insurance Company enters the list for the first time and ranks 290th. China Mobile, ICBC and China Telecom rank 230th, 237th and 254th respectively.
